Alila, Sandy Lane

Alila is a new residential property which incorporates the traditional design elements of “old” Barbados in opulent splendour.  The vast utilisation of hardwood as central to the design is a celebration of the island’s architectural origins and was a project perfectly suited to the world class craftsmanship and perfectionist tendency of Genesis Construction. Every room; inclusive of bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen and every vantage point incorporates wood, inclusive of the grounds, bridges and walkways connecting the house to the gardens, gazebo, pools or ponds.

Cockade House, Bagatelle, St. Thomas

This 1700’s sugar plantation house is set on over 7 acres of land in beautiful St. Thomas. In 1971 it was renovated extensively by the world famous Oliver Messel.

Genesis Construction worked extensively on the most recent renovation, this time undertaken by famed architect Michael Gomes. The restoration mandated that design features of the redesign by Oliver Messel be totally preserved. In so doing, Barbados’ rich architectural history is also preserved.

The delightfully appointed self- contained cottages and outhouses established across the beautiful grounds of the property combine modernity with historical as their form celebrates the original chattel houses which were established around the plantation houses during colonial times. The sophisticated redesigns which celebrate the island’s indigenous roots are particularly spectacular and were crafted by Genesis Construction and its sister company Total Woodwork Inc.

Olivewood, Sandy Lane

This was Genesis Construction’s very first project; literally the genesis. For this reason, Olivewood is special as it formed the first chapter of their story.

This Sandy lane property was completed in 2002 and combines traditional Barbadian materials of wood and coral stone in its design along with historical and innovative design elements with both local and international influence. The exquisite detail of the woodwork utilised in ceilings, jalousie windows, doors, mouldings have become synonymous with Genesis Construction.

Tides Restaurant

Preservation of history and our indigenous architectural legacy is one of the aspects of construction that Genesis Construction relishes most.

The recent renovation from the foundation up of the Tides which is positioned almost directly on the water’s edge at Holetown provided them with another opportunity to make an indelible mark on our island’s architectural landscape.

This world-class dining spot was formerly a classic seaside house built just after World War 2 almost entirely of coral stone and mahogany. The use of these traditional materials has been preserved but with a contemporary marine inspired, island style.

Wimoweh Residence

Wimoweh’s location, which stretches almost 100 ft. along the seashore of one of the world’s most renowned coastlines is second to none.  This modern and beachy design incorporates many traditionally Barbadian design elements inclusive of high ceilings, louvred doors as well as indoor and outdoor living areas but with sleek, masterful sophistication. The interior and exterior walls and the hand carved crown mouldings are all made of coral stone quarried on the island- a locally sourced building material with great historical relevance and one that is a usually extensively used in construction executed by Genesis.
